A Message from Jannette...
A Message from Kay . . .
After 40 years, I'm going home. I'm headed to the farm--to land owned by my great grandfather 100 years ago. As a child, I ran through the fields of tall yellow sage grass--arms out stretched-fingertips feeling the nubby tops. When my energy faltered or I was called to the house, I would be covered in those nubby tops of sage grass.

Those sage grass fields have what my Dad calls a bottom land where his father, Amiel, and his aunt, Gertrude would plow with the old mule, Yellow. The bottom was sewn in different crops but mainly corn. I hope to see a crop sewn in the rich, fragrant dirt this year for the first time in many years. I would love to say that my sweat, blood and tears will join those of my ancestors working this field and it might - but more than likely it will be my elderly Dad's and nephew’s. There is something about being a steward of land. I plan to be a true and trustworthy steward.

My best life memories are wrapped in that house, barn and woods. The house had a glorious upstairs, wood stove, sticky wooden windows, a banging screen door and a smoke house. Life was slower there: I felt comfort and secure surrounded by the old walls, old furniture, old dishes and old ways of life. Winter time air within the house was smokey and smelled of hardwood. Summertime air was breezy with open windows and oscillating fans. Those were the early days of my love for the old. Along with a yard sale queen of a mother - I never looked back.

So me, Mom, and my twin sister, Jannette, opened a small store in 2009. It is located in a tiny farmhouse sitting close to the highway between the towns of Salem and Viola, Arkansas. It’s been fun, a lot of work, laughs, tears and meeting tons of customers who are now friends. Sweet Mom passed away in July of 2019. My family is still heartbroken. But we do our best to honor Mom with our store, picking trips and the never ending hunt of a bargain, hand crafting pieces and saving the old ways.

We pride our selves on great prices, unique items and Mom inspired pastimes like bird watching, flower gardening and old-time canning. We plan to bring the best from our store, website and the lace of our lives on the Farm.
As we ushered in 2021 and moved past the chaos of 2020, the year did provide us with valuable lessons. Although, we were unable to spend lots of one on one time with family and close friends, personally, it was comforting to look around our homes and see family heirlooms or treasures, remembering where and who was with us when we found and purchased that great piece we had been looking for forever. One cherished aspect of decorating with family heirlooms/antiques is the comfort and happy memories it brings to mind. We've rediscovered our love for nature, old hobbies and for some of us our, fondness of crafting/creating. We had more time to fall in love with the places we call home. Working to make our homes into a more satisfying, inspired place to live, work, and play. Additionally, we stepped outside, into our outdoor area, our yards, our porches, our flowers, gardens and we watched the wildlife that visited our outdoor space. These are just a few of the ways the pandemic impacted the way we view and decorated our homes and outdoor living space.
